 RICHTER ENLISTS WITH ORIGINAL S.W.A.T® - Original S.W.A.T. Hires Gary Richter to Consolidate all Tactical Holdings Assets to our Morristown, TN Facility |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: STOCKTON, CA – September, 2014: Original S.W.A.T.® , Original S.W.A.T.®, the leading value-minded tactical footwear manufacturer, is pleased to announce that our company, Original Footwear, has hired footwear and outdoor industry veteran Gary Richter for an indefinite tour of duty with Stockton, CA-based footwear brand Original S.W.A.T. (Special Weapons And Tactics) and has deployed to Morristown, TN.
Original S.W.A.T. recently acquired Morristown-based Tactical Holdings which manufactured and distributed footwear brands Wellco and Altama, as well as, Smith & Wesson Footwear under a licensing agreement. Initially, Richter is charged with consolidating finished goods, raw materials, machines, tooling, real estate, personnel, structure and other assets from Morristown, Salinas, Puerto Rico and two Lexington, TN locations, all into the Morristown facility.
The shift to military, tactical and uniform footwear is a sideways move after 28 years with footwear brands Brooks, Merrell, Garmont and Icebug of Sweden. Richter stated: “I’m not sure if it’s an original, but I’ve always made the statement, and believed that any day that you try something new, you get a day younger. Any day you don’t,….is just another day. If that is true, I’ll be in diapers before this is done. This transition project is hugely ambitious, but equally exciting!”
“On the one hand, it is reminiscent of Kevin’s (Kevin Cole, owner, CEO of Original SWAT) and mine early days at Merrell, during that brand’s vertical growth and change phase in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s. But Original SWAT is more narrowly focused, more quality oriented and the brand and product philosophy has a very different motivation, reflecting the lean management team’s direction and Kevin’s roots and values. There are no share holders’ portfolios to pad. Most of all, Kevin wants to make quality product here in the US by a lean, prideful and appreciative, well-supported workforce. That, I can work with.”
Following the consolidation and transition period in Tennessee, Richter will return to his Vermont base where he will assume Eastern Regional Sales Manager duties, covering from Maine to Florida.
